Level: Beginner to experienced
Dive Entry: Boat entry, simple roll back.
Water temperature: 19-28 depending on the time of year
Visibility: 15 - 30+ meters
Conditions: Unpredictable currents
Gamat Bay Marine Life:
Schools of damsel fish, long nose hawk fish, surgeonfish, nudibranchs, unusual shells, gorgonians, black coral, turtles, potato cod and reef sharks. Sunfish in season.
Gamat Bay Details:
This beautiful bay off the Toyapakeh Strait is home to crystal clear water and a steep rugged reef rich with hard and soft corals that stretch down to about 50 meters; it is not necessary to go any deeper than 20-25 meters here though as the small caves and crevices are abundant with reef fish.
Gamat Bay is one of the only places on Nusa Penida that does not require drift diving so photographers can spend a little more time with their subjects; the shallows are filled with growth more typical of deep water with black corals and impressive gorgonians. As with all sites on Nusa Penida though, the currents here can be unpredictable.
A word of warning
No matter how experienced a diver you are, listen to your experienced guide as the currents on this site can be unpredictable.
