Why dive at The Menjangan?
Well, right here in our very own house reef, our experienced dive guides can reliably spot the internationally elusive Mandarin Fish!. These colorful critters (seen above right) make the evening dusk dive on the house reef wildly popular as divers can observe and photograph them in their renowned mating dances. Regarded as the most colorful of the dragonets, Mandarin Fish are commonly among the favorite subjects of even the most experienced underwater photographers. Having a dive with them is a truly unique experience.
While a dive on the house reef with mandarin fish is a great treat, any page about diving in the area would be remiss to omit a description of the fantastic dive sites of Menjangan Island itself. This coral island located off the north coast of Bali lies within the protective boundaries of the West Bali National Park and make it Bali's most protected dive site. The effectiveness of this protection is apparent during dives where the variety of species to be found is simply the best in Bali.
Ranging from the large to the small, you get it all. The dive site Eel Garden features a great diversity of hard and soft corals as it slopes to a deep drop off where grey and white tip reef sharks are commonly seen. Moving south, you come to Pos I, Cave City and Pos 2, where the craggy underwater cliffs set a dramatic scene on this wall dive. Further east, you move to Bat Cave which is a continuation of the cavernous wall which runs along the entire south side of Menjangan Island. All this amazing topography is inhabited by the same diverse array of underwater life which has made Indonesia the fastest growing dive destination in the world.
