Bali Diving Newsletter March 2010 Dive SitesBali Dive Sites: Blue Corner - home to some of Bali's most interesting diving, this dive site has been called many names - Blue corner, Jurassic Point or Ental Point. What ever the name, this very advanced dive site is one of my favorites to dive.

Blue Corner is just that, the corner of Nusa Lembongan where the ocean rushes around from the North Coast of lembongan and Penida before heading South past Manta Point. From Lembongan Bay you can look from the beach and see the occasional dive boat lying in wait for the perfect conditions. I say occasional because this site has to be entered at just the right time. An old saying that I like to hear is - "this could be your best, worst or last dive of you life". Are you scared? Well you do not need to be scared; you just need a very good dive guide, dive operation and a lot of good diving experience behind you.

When you can get in at the right time with nice slack water then this site can be incredible. You should be put in where the water is fairly deep, around 15 - as there is a shelf that you need to reach around this depth. If you take too long to get down the currents can take you past the dive site before you realize. As you pass below the shelf you then begin to follow the line of the reef which will eventually come to the corner, hence the name Blue Corner. As you drift by the fairly sparse coral reef, this site is not known for the reef, you will be able to see how the reef just drifts away down to some great depths. The visibility here is normally excellent with some days getting to 40 meters plus. As I said, the reef at depth is not so great although the shallow reef at the end of the dive is very nice and healthy.

During the dive though you can encounter absolutely anything. When you have some current running then you can see Mola Mola, sharks, scores of large marble rays, eagle rays, dog tooth tuna, giant Barricuda, giant trevally, sea snakes and lots more. This is basically a BIG FISH dive site!

So if you can handle strong currents, deep depths, cold water and some real unpredictable conditions, plus you have a love for adventure then this is the place for you!
