PADI Divemaster Training in Bali

Here at Blue Season Bali, our divemaster internship program is aimed at completing two primary goals. First, we include information, workshops and seminars which are far beyond the requirements of the basic PADI divemaster training. We do this with the goal of making you the most well-rounded and knowledgeable divemaster possible.

Second, we place a high emphasis in developing your divemaster skills and theory up to instructor level. So, when you move on to take your Instructor Development Course, it's an absolute walk in the park.

divemasters trainingI'll go ahead and list the basic requirements of PADI's Divemaster training. These first components are standardized world-wide. After that, I'll show you everything else we throw in to help you become a diving genius. Really, if freakin' Yoda dived, he would want to dive like you when we're done with you...

The requirements of a PADI Divemaster Course:

PADI Divemaster Training, Knowledge Development:

The PADI Divemaster manual has nine chapters and the end of each chapter features- you guessed it- a knowledge review. This manual explains the role of a divemaster and begins to develop your understanding of divemaster theory. You will also develop a plan on how to respond to diving emergencies.

There are eight exams in the PADI divemaster course. The first three are about the role of a divemaster. The following five are Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Decompression theory and Skills & Environment. These five sections are very important because they really develop your understanding of the "how" and "why" of diving. Also, they happen to be the same five sections you'll be tested on during your IDC and also the PADI IE. You will be an expert on these topics by the time you leave Blue Season Bali.

Where do I fit in? I'm always available to geek it up Westy-style. I'll have you estimating pressure changes in tanks based on changes in temperature in no time. Do you want to know the single most serious risk to technical divers? Just ask. By the way, please remember that I'm only one member of a very experienced instructor development team here at Blue Season.

PADI Divemaster Training, Waterskills and Stamina:

Divemaster Rescue AssessmentDivemasters and instructors need to know how to swim. If you're not a particularly strong swimmer, that's okay. You'll have plenty of time to practice in our on-site training pool. As part of your divemaster course you will need to complete the following waterskills assessments:
- 400m swim
- 15 minute float/tread
- 800m snorkel
- 100m tired diver tow

You will also develop and be assessed on your ability to surface an unconscious diver, administer rescue breathing, remove equipment and tow to safety. This rescue skill is developed through repeated practice during our weekly skills sessions.

PADI Divemaster Training, Demonstration quality skills:

We have a skills session scheduled every Wednesday. In addition to developing your rescue skills, we practice demonstrating the "20 basic scuba skills"- just like you would to an Open Water student.

You will learn techniques to make your skills demonstrations as effective as possible. The 20 skills you will master and demonstrate are:

- Equipment assembly, adjustment, preparation, donning and disassembly.
- PADI Predive safety check (BWRAF)
- Divemaster Skills EvaluationDeep water entry
- Buoyancy check at the surface- attain neutral buoyancy
- Regulator-to-snorkel and snorkel-to-regulator exchange
- Proper five-point descent
- Regulator recovery and clearing
- Mask removal, replacement and clearing
- Air depletion exercise and alternate air source use stationary for 30 seconds
- Free-flow regulator breathing
- Fin pivot (both low-pressure and oral inflation)
- Proper five-point ascent
- Remove and replace weight system on the surface
- Controlled emergency swimming ascent
- Hovering in midwater for 30 seconds
- Underwater swim without a mask
- Remove and replace weight system underwater
- Remove and replace scuba unit underwater
- Remove and replace scuba unit on the surface
- Buddy breathing stationary and swimming (both donor and receiver)

PADI Divemaster Training, Practical Application:

Dive Site Map: You will learn how to construct a proper dive site map during your divemaster training here at Blue Season Bali. We've even written our own workshop to give candidates the skills and knowledge needed to make a high-quality dive map.

Equipment Exchange: Toward the end of your training, you will go into the pool with another candidate and an instructor to do the equipment exchange. I won't tell you too much about this now because it is intended to gauge your response to task loading and moderate levels of stress. This means: fun for me! :)

Divemaster Conducted Program: Also toward the end of your divemaster course, you will be completely in charge of running an assigned program. This program will be one of the items which may be conducted by a certified PADI Divemaster.

Guiding Certified Divers: Once we have worked together and you're ready for it, you will be assigned to guide certified divers on day trips. At first, these certified divers will likely be your fellow trainees as you work and develop together. Guiding certified divers is a huge part of the real-life job of any divemaster!

Assiting on Courses: You will assist on at least one complete PADI Open Water course during your training. You will also assist on at least one component of PADI continuing education- like Advanced Open Water or Rescue Diver. While these are the minimum requirements, we'll try to have you assist multiple courses and at least one of each of OW, AOW, EFR, and Rescue. This experience is absolutely valuable if you plan to work your way up to becoming a PADI Instructor.

Divemaster Training with a Difference:

PADI CDCSure, as a PADI Career Development Center we conduct all courses in compliance with PADI Standards, but there's nothing that says we have to stop there. We have built loads of professional development seminars, workshops and clinics into our revolving internship schedule which are aimed at making you the most complete and competent dive professional possible.

We do this partly to fulfill our company mission to provide the highest-quality dive training available anywhere and partly because we know the professionals we train become part of our permanent reputation in the industry.

Advanced Personal Diving Skills:

Yes, we're all about professional development here at Blue Season Bali, but I know from experience that many people don't do their divemaster training to become a professional diver- they want to spend a few months becoming a ridiculously good diver.

The same was true for me when I started my own divemaster training! Besides, let's be honest here; any respectable dive professional has to look - and be- great in the water. Do you think you'll get this with that "Honduras Hustle" you saw online? Right, read on...

So, how exactly can I help make you a better diver? Well, how about perfect trim for starters? If you're not diving in a straight horizontal attitude, you're wasting energy and that precious tank of gas on your back. How about turning 360 degrees without actually moving anywhere? Helicopter turns. Can do. Or perhaps you'd like to learn how to fin backwards? Yes, it is possible. Trust me on this one.

These are just a few of the techniques which can take your diving up to a professional level. I call it "underwater sexiness" and it is important! For example, the young man pictured above came to us with just a handfull of dives and now he's out there producing great divers as a certified PADI instructor. Even if you are already an experienced diver, I bet you can improve your diving after just a few skills clinics with our professional development team.

Real Life Divemaster Internship Experience:

Real life divemaster trainingThe key to our scuba diving internship program is that you learn what it really means to be a professional diver. You will work alongside our divemasters, instructors and course directors learning the ropes as you develop your professional-level dive skills and knowledge.

Your peer candidates form a great reservoir for the theory and knowledge development portions of your training. Meaning, you can work as a group to discuss and better understand things which may have taken you hours to study individually. Result!

All-Inclusive Scuba Diving Internship Packages:

I remember when I was trying to organize things for my own divemaster training and instructor development course. Trying to calculate book costs, application fees, exam fees, accommodation, airport transportation, and the countless other things was very frustrating. I suppose you're learning that right about now. Bottom line, we put it all in there. We've already covered getting here and the visa situation; so basically, you get yourself here and we take care of the rest.

We do have a few different internship options from which you may choose depending on your budget, schedule and training goals. You can view the various course inclusions and prices by clicking below. If you do go off and have a look, don't forget to come back here so I can finish telling you about your internship!

One-month PADI Divemaster Internship
Two-Month Deluxe Divemaster Internship with MSD and 5 specialties
Four-month Go Pro Divemaster Internship with MSD and 10 specialties
Three-month Instructor Internship with MSD and 5 specialties
45-day Open Water to Pro Internship
Seven-month Zero to Hero Internship with MSD and 5 specialties

Dive Industry Workshops:

Yeah, we've written those too. Any dive professional should know about filling tanks, maintaining equipment, dive operations, sales techniques, rigging lift bags, tying proper knots, advanced navigation techniques and guiding properly. We have developed workshops to teach you all these things! These workshops have been designed by our senior instructor development team, drawing on years of diving and teaching experience. You will not find these programs anywhere else.

Commitment to Marine Conservation:

PADI Go-Eco Dive CenterBlue Season Bali is a staunch supporter of Project AWARE and its efforts to foster education, advocacy and action when it comes to issues surrounding marine conservation. As a PADI Go-ECO dive center, we are recognized as a leader in the movement to bring this message forward.

Underwater Cleanups: Blue Season Bali participates in Dive for Earth Day and International Cleanup Day every year. We also conduct cleanups the other ten months of the year. Furthermore, we regularly work with local schools and civic organizations to further education and participation in these events. We don't wait for a special occasion to try and make a difference.

Coral Monitoring: Recently, Blue Season Bali has embarked on a project to begin regular monitoring of three different reefs in the area. These valuable data will be reported back to Project AWARE so that scientists can begin painting an accurate picture of these reefs and also understand trends which may be affecting them. Training in coral monitoring and participation in these activities are important contributors to your understanding of the marine environment.

The end result: this is not your average divemaster course. There are already enough shops out there willing to do the bare minimum. We are not one of them.
