Uluwatu Temple, Kecak Dance and Beach Dinner in Jimbaran
Tour Summary:
Take in the amazing atmosphere and wonderful views of Uluwatu Temple; you’ll also enjoy the traditional Kecak Dance amidst the beautiful surroundings of the Temple during sunset. A delicious Seafood Dinner at Jimbaran Beach is the perfect conclusion to this great half-day trip.
Tour Description:
The trip starts at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, when a driver and a guide will pick you up at your hotel. After a 1 hour ride you’ll arrive at Uluwatu, one of the most spectacular Temples on the island of Bali; it is perched majestically on the edge of a steep cliff and towers over the legendary surf breaks of Southern Bali. This Temple which was built in the 16th century is also one of the most important with its location guarding the Balinese from the evil spirits of the ocean; you’ll want your camera for this one as the views are out of this world.
Everyone should experience a Traditional Balinese Dance during their vacation and so at 6 o’clock you’ll get to see the Kecak Dance while enjoying the beautiful views and impressive sunset behind the stage. You won’t have seen a performance like this before! Men in local Balinese costumes sit on the floor in a circle and chant the word ‘Kecak’ , the overall sound is what makes this tradition so unique. You will also be impressed by the way the actors perform certain dances – the women are even dancing with their eyes! The story the Kecak dance tells reflects a topic that you can find throughout everything that belongs to the Balinese culture – good and bad are equally important as one could not exist without the other; it is necessary that everything in life has an opposite, because how could one define good without the existence of bad? You’ll also be impressed by the Fire Dance, an integrative part of the Kecak Dance. Dancers jump through fireballs and put the fires out with their bare feet! After the 45 minute performance you’ll have the opportunity to take photographs with all the different characters in native costumes.
The perfect grand finale to this half-day trip is the Seafood meal on Jimbaran Beach! So while enjoying a Seafood Plate (fish, calamari, prawns and mussels) you can tip your toes into the sand, look at the ocean and hear the sound of the breaking waves. After dinner your guide and driver will bring you back to your hotel, so expect to be back at about 9-9:30pm.
Tour Duration:5 – 5 ½ hours (4-9/9:30pm)
Includes: Admission Fees, transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle, Sea Food Dinner (incl. rice, spinach, spices, sauces, soup, fruit plate, 1 soft drink; excl. juice, alcohol)
What to Take: Camera, pullover, umbrella, appropriate footwear in case of rain (it might be muddy at Uluwatu Temple), mosquito protection, bottle of water.
Additional Info: Be careful while walking around the Temple area of Uluwatu as the monkeys that live in this area are wild and are happy to steal everything that is not nailed down – so look after your camera, jewellery, any ‘bling’, glasses and hats as they will be attracted to them! In case of rain the dance and dinner will be moved to an indoor venue. In our opinion, the Seafood helpings at Jimbaran could have been more generous.
Recommended for: Everyone! Although there are steps at Uluwatu Temple, we don’t think they will cause too many problems for elderly guests. Children should enjoy this trip as the dance is colourful and entertaining and Jimbaran Beach is a great place for them to play.
Not Recommended for: Anyone in a wheelchair as there is no ramp and you have to go up the steps in order to watch the dance.
Price: USD70 per person
