Dive safari in Padang Bai and Tulamben
Posted date: 06 April 2006
The divers have returned from our recent dive safari to Padang Bai and Tulamben with some excellent photos.
The first day involved travelling up to Padang Bai from Sanur and then diving at the site close to Padang Bai. The first dive took in Blue Lagoon where the conditions where still recovering from the really bad weather we have had over the last week. The cyclone in North West Australia has had an effect on the weather here. Thankfully, it is now clearing up. Although the visability was not the best, they still managed to see some great marine life such as the leaf scorpion fish, crocodile fish, cuttlefish, stingrays and lots more. The second dive in Jepun after lunch was also very nice with the most notable thing being the beautiful Napolean wrasse that was gracing the area.
The divers stayed overnight in Padang Bai at the accommodation at Absolute Scuba which is definately ther best option for anyone considering staying in Padang Bai overnight. The rooms are represent excellent value for money and are very clean, ari conditioned and ideally located just by the beach.
The next day the divers set off for Tulamben and the USS Liberty wreck. The conditions were still pretty rough but that is not a problem for Tulamben as most of the interesting stuff is macro life. It doesn't really matter if the visibility is poor for that! A dive at the wreck and then at Seraya was the plan. Seraya is widely regarded as one of Bali's best macro sites due to the enormous amount of nudibrancs, shrimps and crabs that can be found there. The harlequin shrimps are particularly popular.
After diving at Tulamben it was back to Padang Bai for the night. Next day the divers went out for two dives at Tepekong where they had some excellent sightings of the white tip reef sharks that inhabit the area. The current was pretty gentle and the conditions were really nice. Overall the divers really enjoyed their trip and came back with some good photos.
Blue Season Bali is running dive safaris to all of Bali's best dive locations. if you want more infromation about any of our trips, please contact us.
