Mystery Rocks - Bali's latest diving siteBali Dive Sites - Crystal Bay - probably one of the most well known dives sites in Bali given it is home to the Mola Mola, or Oceanic Sunfish.

Of course the Bali Sunfish are a real treat but they are commonly only seen for around 3 months of the year; the rest of the time we have a wonderful dive site with masses of marine life, sponges and corals.

Dive Crystal Bay

This dive site can be dived in three different routes, depending on your focus and the conditions. Whilst many people think that Crystal Bay is an easy dive site, it can be a very challenging site with strong, variable currents.

When I am in the mood for something a little different I like to head off on the west side of the site. This is a really uncommon place for divers as everyone heads off to the East to find the Sunfish. Well if you go the other way then you meet with some really nice coral reef that slopes off against the white sand in the bay. If the current is right you can have a really peaceful dive searching for nudibranchs, flounder, cuttlefish, rock mover wrasse, dart fish plus a load of other interesting fish life.

Mystery Rocks - Bali's latest diving siteIf you follow the crowds then you head off to the East where you can dive along the steep coral reef slopes. You can choose to turn back half way through your dive so you end up back in the bay or, if the currents are right you can keep heading along the reef and be picked up by the boat in the channel.

Either way you have some really pretty coral reefs that even have a nice little cave named the "Bat Cave" due to the bats that live at the top of the cave entrance. If it is swelly then you have no hope of getting in the small cave. There are so many fish and invertebrate life that you will not get bored. I love to look into the blue, ever hopefully of seeing the large pelagic's that grace this site.

This site is where the Mola Mola tend to be seen in Season (July to October) hanging around the depths. The reason why this site is so popular in Mola Mola season is that the Mola Mola will come quite shallow on many occasions. This will give more people a chance to see the Sunfish.

A word of warning - in Mola Mola season Crystal bay becomes overcrowded with divers. You have to be there early so the run of the mill divers have not arrived yet giving you more time in peace. Once the crowds have arrived we know quite a few other locations where you can see the Mola Mola.

That being said, for the rest of the year it is very peaceful at Crystal Bay and well worth a dive!
