Dive Tulamben - Bali's most famous diving location
A two hour scenic drive from the south of Bali will bring you to the popular diving destination of Tulamben. Located on the dry arid north east coast, this area offers gentle diving conditions suitable for any level of diver and sites so rich and abundant with marine life that even the most experienced of diver will want to explore them over and over again.
A diver can spend several days in this location doing three dives alone on the ‘USAT Liberty’ shipwreck, neighboring site Coral Garden can offer anything from peacock mantis shrimp to black tip reef sharks and the impressive wall diving at the Drop Off is staggering with anything from juvenile frog fish to giant trevally.

A short drive or boat ride away will also take you to the beautiful reefs of Batu Kelebit, Alam Anda and the macro hotspot of Seraya Secret, a popular site for harlequin shrimp; to the north you'll also find the sites of Mystery Rocks and Kubu, somewhat quieter but no less spectacular.
On second thoughts, maybe spending several days in this location isn’t long enough as the marine life and outstanding diversity can keep divers amused for several weeks!

Big Fish
You can expect to see many big fish around the Tulamben region. The largest of which is the occasional sighting of whale sharks on the wreck in Tulamben Bay. You can also spot black tip reef sharks, large cod, the ever present bump head parrot fish and a really fantastic giant barracuda. Of course there is more to see than just this.
Small Fish
You name it. It’s there! Starting from the time you enter the shore at about 3 meters you can find so much life in the Tulamben region. This whole area is famous for the vast amounts of vertebrate and invertebrate life. There are large numbers of nudibranchs, pipefish, frog fish, scorpion fish, leaf fish, lion fish, razor fish, crabs and shrimps that you will be kept happy for every second of your dive.
Rare but there!
Diving Tulamben is always a surprise, even for our experienced Blue Season Bali dive guides. Some more unique species you can find might include boxer crabs, pigmy sea horses, harlequin shrimps, blennies, and dragon eels to name just a few.
"Keep an eye out for the local porters in Tulamben who transfer dive equipment from one site to another – what’s so special? The porters are mainly female and they carry two sets of dive equipment on their heads!"
